“Finally a climbing training app that doesn't feel cluttered.”

What the app does

Build your own sessions

Pick from 260 exercises or add your own, and set the rounds, reps, hang time and rest for that day. Put them in the order you climb them and pair them into supersets. A few weeks of sessions make a plan.

  • Your own exercises, with your own protocol
  • Save a session to use again, or copy a week
Building a session: a warm-up and a strength block, each with its rounds, rest and minutes.
A plan in the app: today’s session and the weeks, day by day.

Log every boulder

Each boulder is a flash, a send or an attempt, with how many goes it took and a note. Log yesterday’s session if you forgot, even without signal. Switch on backup and your logbook comes with you to a new phone and to the web app, and you can export it as CSV or JSON. Nothing you log is public.

Logging a boulder during a 4x4: 7A, a flash, on an overhang.
A past session: boulders climbed and topped, the hardest grade and every boulder with its result.

A timer for repeaters and setsPro

It runs the session you built, repeaters and sets inside sets included, with the long rest after each set. It beeps over your music and keeps counting on the Lock Screen while you check your phone.

The guided timer on Abrahangs: a four-finger crimp on a 14 mm edge, set 1 of 3.
The guided timer on a 4x4: round 1 of 4, with the time left and Log boulder.

Tests and trends

Test your fingers and pull-ups, with a Tindeq Progressor if you have one. Trends show your grade pyramid, your flash level and how your sends stack up by wall angle.

Tests: half-crimp, open hand, max pull-up, max hang endurance and bodyweight, each with its change.
Trends: the top grade rising to 7A+, and the pyramid of sends with the flash level at 6C+.

See if this week is more than usualPro

Workload weighs each session by how long and how hard it was, and shows whether this week is more than your usual. It reads the log you’re already keeping.

Workload: this week in your usual range, against a normal week for you.

Pro is €4.99 a month, €29.99 a year or €79.99 once. Yearly starts with 7 days free. Compare Free and Pro

Not sure where to start?

Seven questions give you four to eight weeks of sessions to start from, and you can change every one of them. About a minute, no email. Climbing 6B or below? It keeps you on the wall, no hangboard needed.

Every plan follows the same rules.

They come from coaching practice and the sports-science literature, and the app and this site run the same ones.

More on how it's built
  1. 01

New, or something hurts? The questions ask, and the high-risk finger work stays out.

  2. 02

Climb 6B or below? Most of your training stays on the wall.

  3. 03

A lighter week after every few hard ones.

  4. 04

Hard finger days are never back to back.

  5. 05

Heavy lifting only on days off the wall.

One main thing to train in each block, with one smaller thing beside it.

Questions

What's free?

The training information: every exercise, the planner in the app and on this site, your logbook, tests and trends, and the plan from the seven questions. Pro pays for the guided timer, the plan generator and Workload, and the timer's free for your first week in the app.

Who is it for?

Boulderers who want to train on purpose, from their first year on. The quiz asks how long you've climbed and whether anything hurts, and leaves the high-risk exercises out when it should. Every exercise shows its injury risk, and the ones that need a year or two of climbing first say so. Skip it if you'd rather someone else decided every session.

What if I've only got an hour?

Then the plan fits an hour. The questions ask how often you get to the gym, from twice a week to four times or more, and how long a session is, from 45 minutes to three hours, and every session is built to that time. Change a day or a session later and it still tells you how long it takes.

Does it coach me?

No. There's no AI coach and no video analysis. The seven questions build your first plan from training rules a coach wrote, and it only changes when you change it. Pro's generator drafts the next block from your goal, schedule and time budget, and you edit it from there. If you can afford a coach, get one. Coaches can use the coach area at bloksessions.com/coaches: they write your plan, it shows up in your app session by session, and they see how your training went.

Do I need an account?

Yes, a free one. In the app it doesn't upload your training: that stays on your phone until you switch on backup, which is what lets your log survive a new phone. Plans you make in the browser planner are saved to your account, so they're on our EU server.

Android, or the web?

The app is on iPhone, and the Android app is in review at Google. The planner on this website works in any browser, on Android, Windows or a Mac, with the same account, and plans you change there are in the app the next time you open it.

How do I cancel Pro?

Bought in the app, a subscription is managed by Apple, in your Apple ID settings. Bought on this website, cancel it in the planner under Account → Cancel Pro, or with the link in your purchase email. The one-time purchase never renews, so there's nothing to cancel.

Free on iPhone and in your browser.

Download it and build your first session, or take the seven questions if you'd rather start from a plan.
