About

Last updated

I'm Frank Blokdijk, a boulderer and coach in the Netherlands. I make Blok Sessions on my own: the app, this website and the exercise catalog behind both.

Why it exists

I didn't like any of the training apps I tried, so I made the one I wanted: you pick the exercises, you lay out the weeks, and every exercise shows its sets, rest, minutes and injury risk. I also think climbing training information should be free, so the whole catalog is free in the app and every exercise has its own public page on this site.

How the exercises are written

Each of the exercises lists what it trains, how to do it, how hard it is, how much time it takes and how risky it is for your fingers and shoulders. Some come straight from my own coaching notes. The rest were drafted from published protocols and research, then checked by me one by one. The high-risk ones carry a safety note and a list of who should skip them. When something's wrong, I change it once and it's fixed everywhere, in the app and on this site.

How the plans are built

The free plans and the plan generator follow one set of rules: one main thing to train in each block with one smaller thing beside it, hard finger days never back to back, heavy lifting only on days off the wall, and a lighter week after every few hard ones. If you climb 6B or below, most of your training stays on the wall. The rules come from coaching practice and the sports-science literature, and the same rules run in the app and on this site.

What it costs

The planner, your plans, the logbook, tests and trends are free. Pro adds the guided timer, the plan generator and training load, for €4.99 a month, €29.99 a year or €79.99 once. There are no ads and no trackers. See pricing.
