How to do it
Pick 4 boulders close to your max that you could send today. You get a 6-minute window per boulder, including rest, so plan your attempts to fit - for example 3 attempts with 90 seconds rest. When the window ends, rest 2 minutes, move on, and write down which choices helped or hurt.
Who it’s for
Learning to manage yourself under a clock, which is exactly what a comp or a short session outdoors asks. The decisions are the training, not the climbing.
Common mistakes
- Ignoring the clock. The six-minute window includes rest. Planning the attempts is the exercise.
- Three attempts back to back. You’ll blow the last two. Spread them.
- Choosing boulders you can’t do. They should be close to a send today, or there are no decisions to make.
- Not writing down what worked. Which choices helped, which cost you. Otherwise you’ve just climbed.
How to progress
Shorten the window, or pick boulders slightly harder. Doing it with someone watching adds the pressure that makes it realistic.
