Blok Sessions or Lattice?
Short answer
A LatticePlan is built in Lattice's app from a quiz and adapts every week to how you feel and perform, for £22.99 a month or £124.99 a year after a 14-day free trial. Its coached plans add a Lattice coach, from £150 for 12 weeks. Blok Sessions gives you a free plan from seven questions that changes when you change it, and Pro, €29.99 a year, adds a timer that runs each session. Pick Lattice if you want the plan to adjust itself, or a coach. We make Blok Sessions.

Where Lattice is better
- The plan steers itself. A LatticePlan adapts every week to how you feel and perform, so you don't have to decide what to change.
- There are real coaches. A coached plan is written from scratch by a Lattice coach after a remote assessment, and Plan Plus adds chat with your coach and unlimited changes to the plan.
- Its assessments compare you with what it calls the largest climbing performance dataset in the world. Its site says 50,000+ climbers tracked.
- It's on Android and the web today.
Where Blok Sessions is better
- The plan's free, with no subscription. Seven questions about where you fall off, how often you train and whether anything hurts give you four to eight weeks of sessions.
- You see every session and every exercise in it, with its minutes, intensity and injury risk, and you can change any of them.
- Pro costs less: €29.99 a year, or €79.99 once and it never renews.
- There's no grade to reach first. New climbers get a plan without the high-risk finger work.
What Blok Sessions doesn't do
No coach, no plan that adjusts itself, no comparing your numbers with thousands of other climbers, and no Android app yet (the planner on this site works in any browser). It's new, and one person makes it.
Which to pick
If you want a coach, or a plan that adjusts itself and you're happy to pay monthly for it, Lattice. If you'd rather plan your own weeks for free and see why each session is there, take the seven questions.
Questions
Is the Lattice app free?
It's free to download, and its App Store page says LatticePlans need an active subscription. In Blok Sessions the plan from the seven questions, the planner, the logbook, tests and trends are free, and Pro adds the timer, the plan generator and training load.
Does Blok Sessions change my plan as I go?
No. The plan changes only when you change it. It already has a lighter week after every few hard ones, and Pro's training load shows whether this week is heavier than usual, but deciding what to change is up to you. If you want the plan to adjust itself, that's what a LatticePlan does.
Can a beginner use either?
Lattice says its LatticePlan app is open to climbers of any ability, and its coached plans ask for V4/6B in the last 12 months, a 10-second hang on a 20 mm rung, and that you're over 18 and not injured. Blok Sessions has no minimum grade. The questions ask how long you've climbed and whether anything hurts, and leave the high-risk finger work out when they should.
Should I get a coach instead?
If you can afford one, yes. A Lattice coached plan is one way. A coach near you is another, and if they use the coach area on this site, the plan they write shows up in your Blok Sessions app session by session.
