How to do it
Using existing holds, build 2-3 boulders of at least 6 moves with several dynamic moves (moves where you jump or throw to the next hold), instead of one wild jump. Keep the difficulty even from start to finish. Climb and refine each one, and rest 2-3 minutes between attempts - dynamic climbing is hard on fingers and shoulders.
Who it’s for
Getting comfortable with dynamic climbing rather than avoiding it. Building the boulders yourself means you can keep the moves at a level you can actually repeat.
Common mistakes
- One huge jump and five easy moves. Several dynamic moves of similar difficulty. That’s the brief.
- Short rests. Two to three minutes. Dynamic moves are hard on fingers and shoulders and get sloppy fast.
- Building at your limit. You want repetitions, not a project.
How to progress
Longer moves, worse catches, or steeper ground. Filming an attempt shows you far more about your timing than the feel does.
When it fits
The training periods this exercise fits into in Blok Sessions.
- Power Explosive moves, momentum and coordination.
- Performance Peak for a trip or a comp: focus, reading problems, trying hard.
