How to do it

Pick 10 problems that get harder as you go. Start with 5 moderate problems you've climbed before, with a maximum of 2 tries each. Then move to 5 problems near your limit, with a maximum of 4 tries each. Rest 2-3 minutes between tries so you still have energy for the last problem.

Who it’s for

A full hard session with a shape to it. Ten problems that get progressively harder gives you a warm-up, a working set and a limit set without planning three separate things.

Common mistakes

  • Spending your attempts early. Two tries maximum on the moderate five. They’re there to get you ready.
  • Short rests. Two to three minutes, longer near the top.
  • Choosing the last five too hard. Near your limit, not above it, or you’ll get nothing out of the last hour.

How to progress

Move the whole ladder up as you get stronger rather than only the top end. Keeping the same problems for a few weeks makes the progress visible.

When it fits

The training periods this exercise fits into in Blok Sessions.

  • Strength Stronger fingers and pulling, with weight you control.
  • Power Explosive moves, momentum and coordination.
  • Performance Peak for a trip or a comp: focus, reading problems, trying hard.
