Sequence or Blok Sessions for coaching climbers?

Short answer

Both are made for climbing. Sequence charges $5 per active client a month on top of the coach's own Sequence subscription, and it's good at one-on-one coaching, with live chat and a library of Climb Strong plans. Blok Sessions is free for 5 climbers, then €10 a month or €99 a year for up to 25, and it runs squads as well as one on one: weekly team trainings, attendance, several coaches and youth squads with a parent's yes. Sequence lists team management as coming soon. We make Blok Sessions.

Coaching climbers? The coach area is free for up to 5 climbers: their plans, what they log and who has a sore finger, in one place.

Where Sequence is better

One-on-one coaching with a lot of back and forth. Its chat has read receipts and reactions, the workout library takes a CSV, and multi-week templates go onto any client. It comes with more than 40 training plans written by Climb Strong's coaches, and it's been on the App Store and Google Play longer. If you coach a few climbers closely and want to start from a big set of ready plans, it's a good choice.

Where Blok Sessions is better

Groups, and anyone counting the cost per climber.

Tonight's team training in the coach area, with who's here ticked off.
Tonight's team training: who's here, and what's on. Demo data.
  • A squad has its own code. Climbers join with it, a coach lets them in, and every coach on the team sees the same climbers.
  • Weekly team trainings show up on each climber's phone on that day. You tick off who came, change what's on for tonight, and run the guided timer for the whole group.
  • Youth squads: a parent says yes before a climber under 16 shares anything, you can log heights, and hangboard, campus and added weight stay out of the exercise list.
  • The check-in before training asks about sleep, body, head and whether anything hurts, and where. Finger pain goes to the top of your screen.
  • Climbers log each boulder as a flash, a send or an attempt, with grade, goes and a note, and Tindeq Progressor tests run from the app.
  • On a paid plan your climbers get the guided timer for your plans and their own Workload, free.

What Blok Sessions doesn't do

No live chat (messages work like short emails, and only with adults), no ready-made plans for coaches, no import from another app, and no way to bill your clients. The Android app is still in review at Google. It's new and small.

Which to pick

A coach with a handful of climbers who wants live chat and Climb Strong's plans to start from: Sequence. A coach with a squad, a youth team, or more than a handful of climbers: Blok Sessions, free for your first 5.

Questions

How much does Sequence cost a coach?

Its coaching page says $5 per active client a month. Its help pages add that the coach needs a Sequence subscription of their own, and they give both prices in Australian dollars. Pending and inactive clients aren't billed. Check its pricing page for today's numbers.

What do 25 climbers cost in each?

In Sequence, 25 active clients at $5 is $125 a month, plus your own subscription. In Blok Sessions, up to 25 climbers is €10 a month or €99 a year, BTW included, with as many coaches as you like.

Can I run a squad in Sequence?

In October 2026 its coaching page lists managing a whole coaching team as coming soon. In Blok Sessions a squad has its own join code and weekly team trainings with attendance, and a head coach lets other coaches in.

Do climbers pay in either?

No. Sequence is free for clients while you coach them. Blok Sessions climbers use the free app, and on a paid plan they also get the guided timer for your plans and their own Workload.

Can I bring my plans over?

There's no import from Sequence. Email hello@bloksessions.com with one of your plans and we'll build it in your coach area with you, so you can try it on a real climber.
