How to do it
Pick easy slab or vertical boulders, well below your limit. Balance a small beanbag on top of each shoe and climb, placing your feet so gently the beanbags stay put. If one falls, climb down and start again, or switch to another boulder. Aim for 8-10 clean climbs.
Who it’s for
Foot precision, made obvious. A beanbag falls off the moment you place a foot carelessly, which is feedback you can’t argue with.
Common mistakes
- Boulders that are too hard. Well below your limit, on slab or vertical.
- Rushing. Slow placements. The beanbag will tell you when you didn’t.
- Giving up after one falls. Climb down and start again, or switch boulders.
How to progress
Slightly harder boulders, or steeper terrain. Aim for eight to ten clean climbs, and expect the first session to be humbling.
