How to do it
A system board has the same holds on the left and right. Climb a simple sequence on one side, then its mirror image on the other. Note which side feels harder and why - feet, hips, lock-offs, or how you grab. Do 4-5 sequences, 2-3 attempts per side, with 2 minutes rest. Spend extra attempts on your weaker side.
Who it’s for
Finding out how asymmetric you are, and then fixing it. Most climbers are noticeably better on one side and have never measured it.
Common mistakes
- Only climbing the strong side. The weak side gets the extra attempts. That’s the point.
- Changing the sequence for the mirror. Same moves, mirrored exactly, or you’re not comparing anything.
- Not naming the difference. Feet, hips, lock-off or hand position. Being specific is what makes the next session useful.
- Doing it at your limit. Moderate sequences. You’re diagnosing, not projecting.
How to progress
Add sequences that target the specific difference you found. When the sides start to feel the same on simple moves, make the sequences longer or the holds worse.
