A strength plan for boulderers, 3 days a week
Small holds are stopping you. Stronger fingers and pulling, with weight you control.
3 sessions a week45, 60 or 90 minutes4 weeks, the last one lighter
The four weeks
Weeks one to three train finger strength, pulling strength and stability on the same days, and each week asks a bit more of you. Week four is lighter: the same days with less work, so you start the next block fresh. The standard version leaves out the high-risk exercises. If you've bouldered for more than three years, climb 7A (V6) or harder and nothing is sore, pick Harder: it adds Minimum edge hangs and Max hangs (added weight).
Weeks 1 to 3
Week 1, find your loads: every hang or edge pull hard but clean, with 2 or 3 seconds in hand. After that, add 2 kg once an exercise has felt clean for two sessions in a row; on minimum-edge hangs, move to a smaller edge instead. Week 2, try one harder limit problem. Week 3 is the heaviest, with the same number of hangs and attempts.
