How to do it
Pick 4-5 easy boulders. Climb each one 3 times, timing yourself with your phone. Try to beat your time on each go without skipping holds, scraping your feet, or losing control. Rest a minute between climbs.
Who it’s for
Climbers who move too slowly and get pumped because of it. Putting a clock on an easy boulder shows how much time you waste hesitating.
Common mistakes
- Getting sloppy to go faster. Skipping holds or scraping feet doesn’t count. Speed with control, or the time is meaningless.
- Choosing hard boulders. Easy ones. You’re training pace, not difficulty.
- Only timing once. Three goes per boulder, so you can see the improvement.
How to progress
Harder boulders, or a target time to beat. Comparing your times over a few weeks shows pacing gains that are otherwise invisible.
