How to do it

Climb 8-12 boulders, starting very easy and getting harder until you're just below your flash level. Make the last few similar in style to today's main session (e.g. steep, crimpy, or dynamic). Rest 1-2 minutes between climbs as they get harder.

Who it’s for

Warming up for a climbing session, in the style you’re about to climb. The last few boulders matching today’s session is the part most people leave out.

Common mistakes

  • Ending too easy. Finish just below flash level.
  • Ending too hard. Just below, not at. The session hasn’t started yet.
  • Ignoring the style. Steep session, steep warm-up. Crimpy session, crimpy warm-up.

How to progress

Eight to twelve boulders is the range. If you’re regularly needing more, that’s worth knowing about yourself rather than something to fix.
