How to do it

On the board you'll be training on, climb 4-6 very easy problems with little rest. Then climb 2-3 problems around your flash level, resting 2 minutes between them. Use the same angle and hold types as your main session.

Who it’s for

Board sessions. The board is steeper and less forgiving than the rest of the wall, so warming up on it, rather than on the slab next door, is what actually prepares you.

Common mistakes

  • Warming up on different terrain. Same board, same angle, same hold types. That’s the whole idea.
  • Skipping straight to flash level. Four to six very easy problems first, with little rest.
  • Resting too long in the easy part. Keep moving. The rest arrives once the problems get harder.
  • Treating the flash-level problems as attempts. They’re the top of the ramp, not the session.

How to progress

As you get stronger the grades move but the shape doesn’t. If the board has a steep setting and you’re about to train on it, warm up on that angle rather than dropping the board back for the easy problems.
