How to do it

Pick 6 hard problems you've climbed before, on vertical or overhanging walls. Climb each one 3 times, resting 3 minutes between every attempt, before moving to the next problem. 18 attempts in total.

Who it’s for

Getting stronger on problems you can already do. Eighteen hard attempts with full rests is a lot of quality volume, which is what builds strength on the wall.

Common mistakes

  • Choosing problems you can’t reliably climb. You need all three laps. Pick things you’ve done.
  • Cutting the three-minute rest. Full rest is what keeps every attempt hard rather than pumpy.
  • Adding problems. Six is enough. Eighteen attempts is already a long session.

How to progress

Harder problems, same format. If you’re getting all eighteen comfortably, the problems are too easy.

When it fits

The training periods this exercise fits into in Blok Sessions.

  • Strength Stronger fingers and pulling, with weight you control.
  • Power Explosive moves, momentum and coordination.
  • Performance Peak for a trip or a comp: focus, reading problems, trying hard.
