How to do it
Set your phone up to film 3-4 attempts on hard boulders. Watch each video straight after, looking for readjusted hands or feet, moments of hesitation, hips far from the wall, and moves where you pulled instead of pushing with your legs. Pick one thing to change and try again. Comparing how a move felt with how it actually looked is one of the fastest ways to fix technique without a coach.
Who it’s for
Anyone without a coach. What a move feels like and what it looks like are very different, and the phone settles the argument.
Common mistakes
- Watching a week later. Straight after, while you still remember what it felt like.
- Looking for everything. Pick one thing to change, then try again.
- Only filming sends. The falls are more useful.
How to progress
Film the same project across sessions and compare. Hips further from the wall than you thought is the most common finding, followed by pulling with the arms where the legs could push.
